Planners vote down Swift Creek plan
BOS Meeting for Chesterfield is May 23, 2007 in the Public Meeting Room. Planning Commission met May 15, 2007 with the biggest piece was the vote against the Swift Creek Plan citing an need for more time. The BOS had demanded that a vote be taken and were expecting to get it before them before this Fall's election. They better. Alot of seats may indeed hinge on the Swift Creek plan. There was virtual no time for a true public hearing on the plan before this vote before the Commission. It now goes to BOS. It is striking when the Planners oppose something and the Supervisors seem set on approving it for political purposes. Shouldn't we be concerned with getting this one Right?

Shame, shame, shame on BOS Dickie King for his recent assertion in the RTD that the planning commission was engaging in political ploys when the PC voted to not recommend the Swift Creek Plan. If anyone is playing politics with this plan it is the BOS and the current County Administration. The PC is not to blame for this one! The county's regional water quality plan was turned down from DEQ and Army Core in 2001. Who was held accountable? Noone. Politics as usual in Chesterfield.
Politics as usual is correct, but the Commission is equally guilty. I'm really amazed that so few people realize the Upper Swift Creek Plan hasn't really changed. The Green Zone isn't quite what it seems, most of the staff and anyone that understands land use ( in contrast to those that stand at the podium and act like they have a clue)can see this. The water quality issue can only be addresed with ordinance amendments. If anything were to change on the map for water quality purposes, the recommended densities would increase.
the commission will get an extension by the board to review and examine the plan and hold more hearings. Could you imagine the fallout of approving the plan without the commission support?
How can the County actually move forward with the Swift Creek re-zonings and the proposed growth along the 288/ Woolridge and Hull corridor without first passing a plan for the area. A plan should have a vision for the growth in the area over the next 20+ years not 5 to 10. The Board is already behind the massive subs of Magnolia and Roseland even before they pass a comprehensive growth plan for Swift Creek. This Board needs to be flipped!!! Hopefully Marleen Dupree will prevail in her bid for the Board. Smarter Growth Please!!!
